The Stratus Alliance

Subsurface data without legacy limits

The Stratus Alliance brings together Tape Ark, Moveout Data and Osokey to create an advanced, automated and globally scalable ecosystem for subsurface data modernisation.

The Alliance combines Tape Ark’s industrial-scale media ingest and cloud-migration infrastructure, Moveout’s seismic intelligence and Metaseis technology, and Osokey’s cloud-native visualisation and collaboration platform.

Together, we provide an end-to-end path from physical media to accessible cloud-based subsurface knowledge.

We recover the media.
We understand and improve the data.
We make it accessible.
We help put it back to work.

A cloud-first approach to subsurface data

Energy companies have accumulated enormous volumes of seismic, navigation, well and supporting information.

Much of this data remains stored on aging tapes, disks, paper records and isolated file systems. Even when a catalogue exists, users may be unable to inspect the underlying information without first requesting a restore, moving large files and loading them into specialist software.

This separates people from the information they need and limits the organisation’s ability to process, share and analyse its data at scale.

The Status Alliance begins with a different principle: subsurface data should be moved into a controlled cloud environment where it can be processed, enriched, visualised and used at scale.

The Status Alliance is cloud first and that means more than selecting cloud storage as a destination. It means designing the complete workflow around cloud accessibility, automation, elasticity, integration and customer control.

Three specialists. One connected ecosystem.

Tape Ark: ingest and cloud migration

Tape Ark provides the infrastructure, automation and global operating capability required to recover data from tape, disk and other legacy media at industrial scale.

Tape Ark’s role can include:

  • Physical media collection and logistics
  • Chain-of-custody management
  • Media auditing, inventory and barcoding
  • Tape and disk ingestion
  • Legacy tape restoration
  • Robotic and parallel processing
  • High-throughput cloud transfer
  • Data validation and reconciliation
  • Tape virtualisation
  • Metadata extraction
  • Secure media retirement and disposal
  • Multi-location project execution

Tape Ark’s distributed infrastructure allows large projects to be performed from the facility best aligned with logistics, capacity, data sovereignty and customer requirements.

Moveout Data: seismic intelligence and quality control

Moveout provides the specialist knowledge required to understand and improve complex geoscience information.

Its team has extensive experience in seismic acquisition, processing, navigation, conditioning, quality control, compliance and legacy-data recovery.

Moveout’s role can include:

  • Geoscience library auditing
  • Seismic and navigation analysis
  • Legacy-format investigation
  • Low-density media handling
  • Data conditioning and remediation
  • SEG-Y standardisation
  • Metadata improvement
  • Survey-component reconciliation
  • Regulatory reporting
  • Technical validation

Moveout also provides Metaseis, its proprietary technology for automated seismic-data conditioning, processing and quality control.

Osokey: visualisation, access and collaboration

Osokey provides the cloud-native environment through which subsurface data can be discovered, viewed, shared and analysed.

Its browser-based technology connects users directly with seismic data through an intuitive map-based interface.

Osokey’s role can include:

  • Map-based subsurface discovery
  • Browser-based seismic viewing
  • Spatial cataloguing
  • Corporate-knowledge capture
  • Secure global collaboration
  • Virtual data rooms
  • Batch processing and quality control
  • Processing-project collaboration
  • Multi-client data presentation
  • Cloud-based seismic analysis

Osokey turns a collection of migrated cloud objects into an accessible subsurface resource.

An integrated workflow

The Status Alliance can support the complete subsurface data-modernisation lifecycle.

1. Discover

We identify the physical media, locations, catalogues, formats, software dependencies, business requirements and known risks.

2. Audit and reconcile

Physical holdings are inventoried and compared with available catalogues and records. Duplicates, gaps and inconsistencies are identified.

3. Prioritise

Data can be prioritised according to media risk, business value, regulatory requirements, geographic relevance and intended future use.

4. Ingest

Tape Ark recovers data from tape, disk and other legacy media using parallel, high-throughput workflows. Moveout provides specialist support for seismic and low-density formats where required.

5. Migrate

Validated data is transferred into the customer’s chosen cloud environment. The customer retains control of its data and cloud architecture.

6. Understand and condition

Moveout applies geoscience expertise and Metaseis to identify, reconcile, standardise and quality-control the recovered information.

7. Enrich

Metadata is extracted, survey relationships are reconstructed and the archive is spatially indexed. Corporate knowledge can be associated with relevant surveys and areas.

8. Visualise

Osokey provides a browser-based, map-driven environment for discovering and viewing the subsurface repository.

9. Collaborate

Authorised internal and external users can work around selected datasets through controlled cloud access, collaboration workspaces or virtual data rooms.

10. Activate

Once accessible, the data can support interpretation, scalable processing, new analysis, machine learning, AI, commercialisation and energy-transition applications.

Metaseis integrated with mass-scale ingest

Metaseis connects Moveout’s geoscience intelligence with the Alliance’s automated ingest and cloud workflows.

Its capabilities include cloud and API-triggered processing, parallel operations, automated three-dimensional navigation merging, remote execution and seismic-data quality control.

When integrated with Tape Ark’s ingest platform, Metaseis can help reduce disconnected hand-offs between media recovery and technical data preparation. Recovered data can move into structured conditioning and QC workflows while the larger migration remains in progress.

The objective is a more continuous path from legacy physical media to validated, accessible cloud data.

Flexible global execution

Projects can be delivered from the Alliance location that best meets the customer’s requirements.

The combined footprint includes Tape Ark operations and facilities supporting Dallas, Toronto, London, Perth and India, together with Moveout’s United Kingdom operations and Osokey’s global cloud-based delivery.

Potential delivery models include:

  • Tape Ark-led global ingest with remote Moveout QC
  • Moveout-led seismic projects using Tape Ark infrastructure
  • UK execution through Moveout and Tape Ark resources
  • North American ingest through Dallas or Toronto
  • Asia-Pacific execution through Perth or India
  • Multi-region programs coordinated across several facilities
  • Osokey SaaS access regardless of ingest location
  • Customer-environment deployment where required

Location decisions are based on efficiency, logistics, technical capability, data sovereignty and client preference—not organisational boundaries between Alliance members.

The customer remains in control

The Alliance is built around transparency, modularity and customer control.

Data can reside within the customer’s chosen cloud environment rather than being unnecessarily tied to a proprietary storage location. Customers can engage the complete Alliance or select the capabilities required for a particular project.

This provides:

  • Greater visibility into project progress
  • Clear ownership of data and cloud resources
  • Flexible service selection
  • Reduced dependence on aging infrastructure
  • Integration with the customer’s preferred cloud services
  • A practical path for future processing and analysis
  • Access to specialist skills without surrendering control of the archive

Not every dataset needs the same treatment

A large subsurface archive may contain valuable production data, regulatory records, duplicate copies, incomplete surveys, damaged media and information with little remaining business value.

Applying the same process to every tape and file can create unnecessary cost and delay.

The Status Alliance supports a risk- and value-based approach. High-risk or high-value media can be prioritised. Repeatable processing can be automated, while geoscience specialists focus their effort on exceptions, damaged data and technically complex datasets.

Where appropriate, media can be ingested first and metadata extraction, enrichment and analysis can then be performed at cloud scale. This removes the need for every data item to progress through a slow, purely sequential workflow.
